Welcome All to the first annual Fire Don’t Care Conference. We are all blessed to have the opportunity to bring you a excellent and much needed week of quality training in beautiful Kent, Ohio. We thank you for your interest in attending and hope to meet and exceed your expectations. This has been a crazy year and a half and it is our goal to bring back a sense of normal to your training regiment.
This message is to intended to provide details for the week as to help answer some of the basic questions you may have and to make this an excellent experience.
The Fire Don’t Care Conference will take place in Kent, Ohio at the Kent American Legion Underwood Hall located at 1945 Mogadore Rd, Kent, Ohio, 44240 along with multiple training sites in the Stow Kent area from September 7th-11th. The lecture portion of this conference will be held at the American Legion September 7th, 8th, 9th. There is plenty of parking on site. Please use the Southern Entrance that will be marked for your convenience when entering the building. Doors will open at 7am each day. All participants in the lecture series must check in at the registration table to receive your wristband. This must be worn each day and will be needed for a social night later in the week. This will be discussed later. Seating in the hall is set up banquet style so that dialogue can occur during breaks and lunch and allow for both a formal and informal learning environment. It is recommended that you bring a notebook and a pen.
Opening Statements will begin promptly at 8am with lectures proceeding immediately afterwords. If arriving late please use the entrance closest to Mogadore Rd as to limit disruptions to the speakers.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the registration table with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Sons of The Flag, a charity dedicated to First Responders and Veterans who have suffered Burns in the line of duty. Cash and Credit Cards will be accepted. Raffle tickets will be sold as following: 5 for $10 or 15 for $20. Bring a non perishable food item and receive 3 additional raffle ticket WITH your initial raffle ticket purchase. Non perishable food items will be donated to a local food bank to help the less fortunate members of the Kent community. Tickets will be pulled for some items Wednesday after lunch with the remaining raffle items being given away at a social event Wednesday evening. More to be discussed later on this. This whole conference is designed to help the community through becoming better Firefighters and by giving back to those who need the help the most. We as Firefighters are public servants and in dark times we are the light that helps guide the way for those that are lost. We kindly ask if you are in the position to give a little, to give a little to the cause and be apart of something bigger than ourselves.
Lunch for the lecture series will be provided by one of our main sponsors University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. This will be provided each day of lectures and we ask that you say a quick thank you to any staff that may be present during the lectures. 1 hour will be given for Lunch with lectures starting back up quickly after. Bottled Water will be available for free and there will be a cash bar that opens at 11 am in the venue for adult beverages and soft drinks. IDs will be required.
Note: Lunch will not be provided for hands on training but a 1 hour lunch period will be given. There are plenty of local establishments located nearby each training site. We ask students to pack a light lunch. Cold bottled water will however be provided at each training site. Evolutions will resume promptly after 1 hour to maximize the time given in the day for training.
Lecture Series Speakers
Due to medical/ and private both Chief Scott Thompson and Cody Trestrail had to cancel their appearances. While this is unfortunate, we ask for your understanding and join us in prayer wishing them the best. With this being said Chris Tobin from Rescue 2 in St. Louis and BC Jonah Smith from Charlotte, North Carolina , have answered to call and stepped up to teach in their place. Please welcome the with open arms and big hearts.

A Private Social Event will be held starting at 6pm at MadCap Brewing Company located at 1422 Mogadore Rd Kent, Ohio. This is a short 1/4 mile drive from the Legion hall. We ask again that all available attend. The big ticket raffle items will be given away at 8pm. WINNERS MUST BE PRESENT. Additional raffle tickets will be sold on site. Additionally Madcap will be donating a portion of their proceeds from the evening to SONS OF THE FLAG. Wristbands must be worn so bartenders can track this. A Food Truck will also be on site for your pleasure.

Hands On Training
Friday and Saturday September 10th and 11th
We are so excited to share a great selection of hands on training with almost 100 firefighters each day spread out over 3 great locations. Once again due to unforeseen circumstances The Truck Company Operations class has been cancelled for September 10th. We have emailed all those signed up with further details and instruction. All other classes scheduled are 100% a go with build outs almost complete. As a reminder lunches will not be provided for these days but food is located nearby all training sites. Hands on Training starts promptly at 8am so please try and be on time. Plenty of parking, water, and restrooms, at each location. Liability waivers must be signed prior to beginning training. We are not responsible for injury, illness, or damaged gear.

Turnout Gear is required for every hands on class and SCBA is required for DIY Engine Company and Little CITY RIT. No SCBAS are available for use and students must bring their own due to COVID. If you have an extreme circumstance do to travel please call Dave at 440-856-3890 and we can try and track one down for you. Bottles can be filled at Kent Fire and Stow Fire and conclusion of each day.
